The Integrity of Protein Supplements: An Interview with Eddie Stone from Touchstone Essentials
Jennifer Schmid
You don’t have to know anything about nutrition to know that there are hundreds of thousands of nutritional supplement products on the market. And of course, Americans are creative geniuses when it comes to labeling, advertising and marketing, so it’s difficult to make heads or tails of what’s actually good for you and what might potentially harm you.
Take protein powder, for instance. Searching “protein powder” on Amazon alone will yield over 10,000 results! Do you want whey? Milk-free? Soy? Soy-free? Pea? Legumes? Rice? Nut? Nut-free? Low carb? Vegan? Flavored? Plain?
And once you figure all that out, is it actually good for you? Will it even taste good? Will your kids let you put it into their smoothies?
It’s overwhelming.
Then there are the companies themselves. Unfortunately, I’ve worked with a few companies who make good products, but just as some companies can lack quality of ingredients, others can lack business integrity. This can be really frustrating, because I don’t want to promote a product when I don’t agree with the company’s business practices.
Luckily, some companies have both high-quality ingredients AND heaping doses of business integrity.
A while back I had the pleasure of sitting down and interviewing Eddie Stone, CEO of Touchstone Essentials, to discuss their newest product called Organic Super Protein.
We talked about
the importance of healthy, high-quality protein in the diet;
why we might need extra protein;
the integrity of the supplement industry; and
the many different types of protein supplements available.
I’ve been working with Eddie and Touchstone for years, and I’m always impressed by both the quality of the products AND their business ethics. The Organic Super Protein (OSP) doesn’t disappoint — in fact, just the other day I came home from work, and my teenage son had made me a “super smoothie cocktail” (using the OSP) for us to enjoy while we made dinner together.
